The art and culture of Sardinia

In the heart of Gallura, in the small city of Luras, there is an “eternal” place where we find some of the oldest Olive trees in Europe. The imposing “S’Ozzastru”- a Natural and National Monument estimated to be between 3,000 and 4,000 years old – keeps watch over the entire valley.

A temple in which you can admire the magnificence of nature and – surrounded by its “unreal” silence – reflect on time and on life.

Founded in 1988 and directed by Paolo Fresu in his beloved Berchidda, Time in Jazz has become a traditional August appointment in Sardinia and one of the most renowned on the Italian panorama of live music.

You don’t have to be an expert on jazz to fully enjoy the festival. Time in Jazz is not only music: film, dance and the visual arts are an integral part of this project which aims to explore the many expressive languages and infinite possibilities of “contamination”.

Contamination also through the choice of the places used during the festival. The large arena set up in the small square of Berchidda, the woodlands of Monte Limbara, and the country churches in the surrounding countryside, in general sites of special historic-naturalistic importance or representative of the local social-cultural fabric.

“Autumn in Barbagia” as we know it since 2001, in reality has earlier origins. In 1996 the City of Olliena decided to organize an event called “Cortes Apertas” – Open Courtyards. The private homes of the city opened their courtyards to the public, creating an itinerary made of aromas, flavors and skills.

The Porto Cervo Food Festival is slated for the start of June. “Brother” to the Porto Cervo Wine Festival, it offers an ambiance similar to the latter and is an important meeting place for various Sardinian and Italian agricultural and food companies. For the tourist, it is a “tasty” occasion to combine the pleasure of a vacation on the Emerald Coast with the discovery of the Sardinian and Italian agricultural and food panorama.

The Porto Cervo Wine Festival is a meeting between several Sardinian and Italian vineyards, an enthusiastic public of connoisseurs, operators in the Hotelier-Restaurant-Café sector and selected international buyers.

The event is unique in its genre, markedly glamorous, like the city that hosts the event. Against an international backdrop of incredible charm, it offers yet another occasion to visit the Emerald Coast in May, when Sardinia again offers serenity and moments of relaxation at low season prices.

Sardinia is the backdrop for numerous sailing regattas. Enthusiasts will be spoiled for choice.
