The Maddalena Archipelago is surrounded by a breathtaking sea and offers a myriad of opportunities for sailing and water sports enthusiasts.
But this Archipelago offers much, much more to the visitor.
With its luxuriant Mediterranean vegetation, the archipelago is a treasure trove of islands and islets scattered over an area of about twenty thousand hectares of land and sea.
Beaches, coves and inlets with soft, fine sand, wind worn granite, vegetation forms that are unique and, at times very rare will amaze you and make your stay here memorable.
The archipelago became a National Park in 1996.
The archipelago can be easily reached by motor ship in about 20 minutes from Baja Sardinia.
The main islands or the “seven sisters”
La Maddalena
The Island of Maddalena has conserved the charm of an old fishing village. The pinkish granite typical of the island emerges from the maquis rich in myrtle, rock rose and Rosemary.
Caprera
This is the Island you see from Baja Sardinia and from the Hotel Punta Est. Wild and beautiful, with its juniper groves and the “Isolotti degli Sperduti” or “dei Monaci”.
Budelli
Budelli is perhaps the most famous of the islands in the archipelago, thanks to its Pink Beach. Budelli is a small gem surrounded by 11 km of enchanting coastline.
Santo Stefano
Santo Stefano, with 3 km of coastline, is the fourth largest Island in the archipelago. It has gentle rolling hills and is frequented only by tourists.
Isola Santa Maria
The greenest of all, it is also the only one with a local population. Among the most beautiful spots are the “Passo dello Strangolato” and the “Passo degli Asinelli”.
Razzoli
Razzoli, with its sculpture like majestic reef, is the northernmost island in the archipelago.
Spargi
Striking white beaches and emerald colour water, imposing fortifications rising over the sea, luxuriant maquis and enormous granite masses are the beauty of Spargi.
